About

Hi. I'm the person behind DieMachin4. I'm a Christian, a software engineer, an amateur musician, an occasional traveler, and a cyclist who spends too much money on coffee at the turnaround point.

The name is a play on die Maschine — German for "the machine." Most of what I love involves some kind of machine. A computer. A synthesizer. A bicycle drivetrain. A jet engine at cruise altitude. Everything on this blog touches one of those things, or touches the life lived around them.

What I write about

  • Christ — Faith, practice, what it means to live as a Christian in the current year.
  • Tech — Software engineering, tooling, side projects, things I've learned the hard way.
  • Music — Things I've made, things I've heard, production notes. Posts with audio have a player right at the top.
  • Travel — Notes from places. Cities, airports, food, light.
  • Sometimes Bicycles — Ride reports, mechanical misadventures, café stop reviews of varying rigor.

The site

Built with Astro 4, deployed on Cloudflare Pages. Audio files live in a Cloudflare R2 bucket. Ships essentially zero JavaScript. Fast, boring, and hopefully readable.
